I believe that both have been danced.<\/p>\n<p>The first one is a Goat Pascola mask. The face was left unpainted, the features were painted black (with a red mouth), and a rim design was added with a transparent coating, a strange innovation in my experience. The brown area on the forehead\u00a0 appears to be a natural stain in the wood.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mexicandancemasks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/P1360672.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-15372\" src=\"https:\/\/mexicandancemasks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/P1360672.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"1040\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mexicandancemasks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/P1360672.png 600w, https:\/\/mexicandancemasks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/P1360672-173x300.png 173w, https:\/\/mexicandancemasks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/P1360672-591x1024.png 591w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>As you may recall, Goat Pascola masks are very commonly used in Sinaloa; goats may be the favorite mask style. I certainly find them charming, and on this mask I particularly like how the mouth and muzzle have been integrated by the paint.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mexicandancemasks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/P1360676.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-15373\" src=\"https:\/\/mexicandancemasks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/P1360676.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"947\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mexicandancemasks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/P1360676.png 600w, https:\/\/mexicandancemasks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/P1360676-190x300.png 190w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I suppose that varnish was used to indicate the rim design.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mexicandancemasks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/P1360680.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-15374\" src=\"https:\/\/mexicandancemasks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/P1360680.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"799\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mexicandancemasks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/P1360680.png 600w, https:\/\/mexicandancemasks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/P1360680-225x300.png 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>There is even a transparent triangle on the top of the mask, but it looks different from the rest because the pigmented sap wood shows through the decorative coating.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mexicandancemasks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/P1360682.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-15375\" src=\"https:\/\/mexicandancemasks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/P1360682.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"667\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mexicandancemasks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/P1360682.png 600w, https:\/\/mexicandancemasks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/P1360682-270x300.png 270w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This mask is 8 inches tall, 5 inches wide, and 2 inches deep.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mexicandancemasks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/P1360687.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-15376\" src=\"https:\/\/mexicandancemasks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/P1360687.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"894\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mexicandancemasks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/P1360687.png 600w, https:\/\/mexicandancemasks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/P1360687-201x300.png 201w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This mask may have been very briefly danced because it does have a proper strap and that strap is lightly soiled.<\/p>\n<p>The second mask has a Parrot face.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mexicandancemasks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/P1360690.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-15377\" src=\"https:\/\/mexicandancemasks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/P1360690.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"915\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mexicandancemasks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/P1360690.png 600w, https:\/\/mexicandancemasks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/P1360690-197x300.png 197w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This is yet another example of the use of animals from the Desert World to provide faces for dance masks, which is a recent trend.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mexicandancemasks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/P1360693.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-15378\" src=\"https:\/\/mexicandancemasks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/P1360693.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mexicandancemasks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/P1360693.png 600w, https:\/\/mexicandancemasks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/P1360693-225x300.png 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Parrots are comical creatures as they fly raucously overhead. Pascola dancers are said to be clowns, although I also view them as shamanic.
