The backs of these masks are unremarkable, and by now you have seen many examples of Crisencio&#8217;s manner of carving the backs, so I omitted photos of the backs of these children&#8217;s masks.The first, which was collected from the carver in 2004, portrays a parrot.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mexicandancemasks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/P1300215.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-9731\" src=\"https:\/\/mexicandancemasks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/P1300215.png\" alt=\"P1300215\" width=\"600\" height=\"1112\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>There is no forehead cross.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mexicandancemasks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/P1300220.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-9732\" src=\"https:\/\/mexicandancemasks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/P1300220.png\" alt=\"P1300220\" width=\"600\" height=\"815\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Isn&#8217;t this a charming mask.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mexicandancemasks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/P1300222.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-9733\" src=\"https:\/\/mexicandancemasks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/P1300222.png\" alt=\"P1300222\" width=\"600\" height=\"711\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This mask is 7 inches tall, 5 inches wide, and 3\u00bd inches deep.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mexicandancemasks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/P1300224.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-9734\" src=\"https:\/\/mexicandancemasks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/P1300224.png\" alt=\"P1300224\" width=\"600\" height=\"877\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This is a small mask with a full set of hair.<\/p>\n<p>The second of these these, which was said to represent a parrot, looks more like a crow. It was collected from the carver in 2006<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mexicandancemasks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/P1300203.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-9727\" src=\"https:\/\/mexicandancemasks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/P1300203.png\" alt=\"P1300203\" width=\"600\" height=\"814\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This rim design is extremely typical for Potam, where Crisencio lives, but we have only occasionally seen it on his masks.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mexicandancemasks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/P1300204.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-9728\" src=\"https:\/\/mexicandancemasks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/P1300204.png\" alt=\"P1300204\" width=\"600\" height=\"818\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>There is no forehead cross.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mexicandancemasks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/P1300209.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-9729\" src=\"https:\/\/mexicandancemasks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/P1300209.png\" alt=\"P1300209\" width=\"600\" height=\"712\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This mask is 6\u00be inches tall, 4\u00be inches wide, and\u00a0 3\u00bd inches deep.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mexicandancemasks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/P1300213.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-9730\" src=\"https:\/\/mexicandancemasks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/P1300213.png\" alt=\"P1300213\" width=\"600\" height=\"801\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This mask has a droll reigned expression.<\/p>\n<p>Here is a particularly small Parrot Pascola mask that was also collected from the carver in 2006.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mexicandancemasks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/P1300250.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-9743\" src=\"https:\/\/mexicandancemasks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/P1300250.png\" alt=\"P1300250\" width=\"600\" height=\"1072\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The ears are very carefully carved, which would not have been an easy feat.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mexicandancemasks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/P1300252.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-9744\" src=\"https:\/\/mexicandancemasks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/P1300252.png\" alt=\"P1300252\" width=\"600\" height=\"817\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This purple color is particularly vivid.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mexicandancemasks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/P1300254.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-9745\" src=\"https:\/\/mexicandancemasks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/P1300254.png\" alt=\"P1300254\" width=\"600\" height=\"780\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This mask is 6\u00bd inches tall, 4\u00bd inches wide, and\u00a0 2\u00bd inches deep.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mexicandancemasks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/P1300256.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-9746\" src=\"https:\/\/mexicandancemasks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/P1300256.png\" alt=\"P1300256\" width=\"600\" height=\"779\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It has speckled paint.<\/p>\n<p>The next two of these masks were danced by children in 2007 at the Barrio Libre ceremonial grounds that are associated with the Capilla de San Martin (the Chapel of San Martin de Porres). These performances were evidently brief, and the backs show absolutely no staining from use. The first was danced by Crisencio&#8217;s Grandson.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mexicandancemasks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/P1300259.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-9747\" src=\"https:\/\/mexicandancemasks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/P1300259.png\" alt=\"P1300259\" width=\"600\" height=\"914\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This very carefully carved mask is undeniably cute.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mexicandancemasks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/P1300262.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-9748\" src=\"https:\/\/mexicandancemasks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/P1300262.png\" alt=\"P1300262\" width=\"600\" height=\"972\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This one, which is painted dark purple, does have a forehead cross.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mexicandancemasks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/P1300265.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-9749\" src=\"https:\/\/mexicandancemasks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/P1300265.png\" alt=\"P1300265\" width=\"600\" height=\"785\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This mask is 6\u00bd inches tall, 4\u00be inches wide, and 2\u00be inches deep.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mexicandancemasks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/P1300268.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-9750\" src=\"https:\/\/mexicandancemasks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/P1300268.png\" alt=\"P1300268\" width=\"600\" height=\"749\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>There is no chin cross though.<\/p>\n<p>The second of this pair, purchased from Crisencio with the other one, may have also been briefly danced by Crisencio&#8217;s grandson. This one represents a chicken.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mexicandancemasks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/P1300225.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-9735\" src=\"https:\/\/mexicandancemasks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/P1300225.png\" alt=\"P1300225\" width=\"600\" height=\"1004\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Like the other full sized chickens, this one has no space for a cross, and there is none.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mexicandancemasks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/P1300229.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-9736\" src=\"https:\/\/mexicandancemasks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/P1300229.png\" alt=\"P1300229\" width=\"600\" height=\"807\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Crisencio&#8217;s chickens and parrots have similar beaks.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mexicandancemasks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/P1300232.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-9737\" src=\"https:\/\/mexicandancemasks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/P1300232.png\" alt=\"P1300232\" width=\"600\" height=\"786\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This mask is 7\u00bd inches tall, 4\u00bd inches wide, and\u00a0 3\u00bd inches deep.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mexicandancemasks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/P1300234.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-9738\" src=\"https:\/\/mexicandancemasks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/P1300234.png\" alt=\"P1300234\" width=\"600\" height=\"872\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The painted wattles limited Crisencio&#8217;s scope when it came time to add the hair tufts.<\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t know when the last two two of these children&#8217;s masks, a brown stained Human Faced mask and a Dog, were collected. Both closely resemble full sized masks that appeared in earlier posts.
